Breaking into a REIT after undergrad - no experience?

How hard will it be to break into a REIT after undergrad this May?

I want to go into development, but don’t have any real internship experience in RE.

I have networked with 2-3 guys at the firm. I contacted 2 of them after I submitted an app for the role and they each replied and said thanks and checked to see if I mentioned them in the application cause it’d be easier to find.

Not sure, if I can still make it into the role, but does anyone have any advice? I’ve already applied now so is it worth networking with other guys in the group?

How hard should I push it? For now, I am simply saying I am excited and so on.

Any final thoughts about what to do or if prior contact with them (interest) can let me beat out other guys with 1-2 years experience. I only have finance and accounting experience and passed CFA L1.

It is RE development. And yes, they posted the role. I caught it within a few hours and reached out. They said they hadn’t really started doing much since it was posted that day. But they’d some how push my resume to get seen. They asked if I used the internal referral on the app.

Also, since I know 3 guys there already. How would you suggest reaching out to other guys in the group especially since I’ve already applied 10 days ago.

At what point do I follow up? Both my contacts replied to my email the same day.

They may just be moving slow. They have to allow time to get applications, look through them, and then get back to you. If you sent in your app on day 1 you may have a 2-3 week turnaround. I would just reach out and ask where they are in the process and try not to annoy anyone.

One way I have found to not be that annoying is to follow up with a life update. Like "Hey I just graduated and was wondering where you are in the process" obviously better but that is the jist of it.

So just so you understand where I am coming from I work at a REIT and we did our undergrad hiring in December.

I would say about 10% of applicants reached out and they were only rewarded for making contact with at least a phone screen/interview. I am not sure how nice we are compared to our competitors We had about 600 applications and really about 400 went in the trash (Unqualified, Complete over qualified, not graduating Ect.) and around 75 got phone screens. In terms of reaching out to another guy: I would say make sure he isn't in the same role/team as someone you already talked to. If it is an alumni that is higher up or a loose connection that is in a different department go for it. However, if you know you already talked to the hiring team reaching out to everyone on a team will come off weird especially since, for the most part, they will have talked about you already to the relevant parties.

Oh, I just reached out to him, asking to learn more about the firm. Pretty sure he's on the same team, different role (associate). Oh well, I guess I fucked it up. I have 2 connections on the team, one on a different team. Basically I have a connection at each level. Should I just scratch this role now?

Are REITs brutal to get into after undergrad?

since the add was posted, only 23 guys have applied via linkedin. So, is that a pretty fair estimate of the number of people who are applying? I have seen other roles on linkedin and they get 200 applicants in the the first 1 day. This role only has 150 views in 7 days.
