Calling All Rising Sophomores
Just wanted to see what the current rising sophomores on this board's progress is like. As for me, I've done a few coffee chats and am in my school's IB club, but haven't really done much work on technicals. I'm currently interning at a local HF and am planning on doing an internship with a local boutique IB firm next summer, but I'm worrying about falling behind as I'm a non-target non-diversity and my knowledge base is currently very minimal.
What are your plans for the next few years and how much preparation do you think it will take you to reach your goals of breaking into IB?
Hey ShowMeDaMoney, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
bump
Fellow rising sophomore here. I am interning at a VC firm this summer and have talked to a couple bankers. I haven't been working on my technicals either but i am planning on getting to it soon.
nice, whats the VC internship like? That sounds like an awesome experience for a rising sophomore. And are you at a target school?
It is alright. A lot of tedious work but I am also learning quite a bit. I am at a west coast target.
Rising sophomore, I've talked to numerous bankers and worked on my technicals for about a month a year ago so I've probably forgotten everything.
I'm at an ultra non-target (CC) so I'm planning to transfer but so far nothing. I was supposed to get an internship this summer but after 3 coffee dates and a literal tour of the office he ghosted me. Pretty much just focusing on transferring at this point. Kinda bummed me out ngl really destroyed all that work & effort I put in
yeah I had a prior internship kinda fall out on me as well, lucky to have landed another one for this summer. Good luck with the transfer though, and at least you get some extra free time this summer.
Not a rising sophomore but I'll give my story. I'm taking three more classes this fall then I'll be finished with my sophomore year. I have an internship lined up with a small VC firm that im excited about this fall semester while i finish school. My summer semeters ends tomorrow and so for the month in between summer-fall i'll start e mailing bankers to build relationships with for 2021 sa recruiting, or 2020 if i can hustle hard enough. I'm also applying to transfer school this fall. Spring semester 2020 ill spend studying technicals while hopefully doing another internship, i'm eying a particular hedge fund in the same city as my vc internship.
Are you intentionally trying to graduate early or did it just work out that way? Those internships during the school year seem like it would be super hard to have any sort of social life outside of school and work but I wish you the best.
Really just worked out that way because I did summer courses each year. The first internship this fall isn't full time, or yes that would be very difficult. In spring 2020 hopefully will land something full time because I wont be attending school.
Rising sophomore, target, diversity. IB internship last school year and IB internship this summer in NY. Networked with multiple bankers at BBs ranging from analysts to heads of groups
