Cancelled internship, need input for plan B

I seriously need help. I had an AM internship lined up for this summer. At first I was told I was looking at a delayed start, and now It's almost certainly not going to happen due to COVID19. I need to pivot ASAP. A TMT company reached out to me since they are seeking a financial analyst intern to help with M&A/market research related work. I'm gunning for roles in AM/HF upon graduation.
Should I consider the role given that it's not exactly investment management, or would it spoil my resume? Would it be smart to start reaching out to local investment managers offering to work for no compensation? Should I dedicate this time solely to sharpen any technical skills? What can I do at this point to bolster my experience/resume and not waste this summer? Any input is much appreciated.
