China Blocks Rare Earth Metals

Just saw that China is starting to embargo rare earth metals from being shipped to the US (they started with Japan back in September). In addition to being important because the metals are used in most electronics, apparently China mines 95% of them.

Any thoughts on what the US is going to and more importantly what they should do?

Ya, apparently "rare" earth metals aren't rare at all. China is just the only country that has been willing to put up with the pollution from mining them. If it becomes real important, the US will start mining or find another country that will, although it would take a few years to get these mines started.
