Z is working visa, right? Generally, they won't care unless you working for a small company. But I guess you work for some banks, right? They will help you figure out anyway. Don't worry about that.
It's not easy, but it can be done. The 2 year thing isn't really a REQUIREMENT -- most companies can / know how to get around that. If the company you're working for really wants you I bet they can take care of it... but most are pretty slow to help you out that much... which is a pain in the arse.
My advice would be to come over on a tourist visa and then figure it out from this end... it's always a pain, but pretty much everyone gets it done in the end -- I've seen no one have to turn back home because they couldn't get it taken care of SOMEHOW... though it can affect which job people take because some will/won't help with the documents
Try and get a job at Groupon out here if you don't have a gig lined up... I've heard they hire pretty much anyone with a solid U.S. degree, pay above market for entry level and handle people's papers etc. at no charge.
Tough if you're under 25. Government cracks down every once in awhile. Big companies may make things easier. If you don't have a gig lined up, come over on a tourist visa (L) and then use a consultancy to switch to a business visa (F).
By the letter of the law, China's visa system is super strict and very stringent. In reality, it's totally corrupt so if you know what firms have PSB people on their payroll, you can do some pretty crazy things. I had to take a train to Qingdao to convert from L to F, but once I did I was set for the next 2 years (excepting renewals).
