Choosing between offers: Botique TMT IB or Capital Markets at a huge mortgage bank?
I have two offers in TMT and CapM and am considering CapM heavily. My end goal is to work at a hedge fund in equities but the IB firm is not very well versed in that regard - the dealflow seems small and somewhat sporadic. Past WSO threads have trashed it as well. How does CapM suit me for exit opportunities in this direction? I would also be interested in a credit fund. The only problem is that I would lack modeling and deal experience. Does training the street or similar programs work as a replacement? Basically the first question is - am I fine to choose CapM given my goal exit?
Second, they also offered an internship for the next spring semester. I am a senior and would technically have the time to do it but also want to enjoy my last semester. How helpful would one IB boutique experience be on my resume post-grad, say 2-5 years from now? Also would it be fine to ask for the internship but not the job?
