Citi Power, MS Power Utilities, BAML Energy and Power
Does anyone have insights into any of these groups?
- How well are they respected inside the firms
-What sort of placement do they have into PE/HF- specifically do they send only to energy funds or other funds as well
-What sort of deal flow are they getting
Any other information would also be very helpful
Citi power does all its own modeling - none of it is outsourced. good culture among the juniors. many leave for power/energy focused buyside shops but some leave for generalist shops as well. deal flow, from what i've heard, has been subdued for the last few years but they are still worked pretty hard.
Citi power probably gets the most amount of deal flow of the three groups OP mentioned. I have also heard good things about BAML Energy.
Buddy from MS Power Utilities is now at a top 3 HF. That said, everyone in his TMT group at said HF comes from a different bank and group. HF recruits depending on the person more so than PE, where school, group, prestige of bank all play a larger factor than anything else.
Citi power is def very solid, their energy group has also received a number of awards after poaching a handful of solid guys from UBS
Any insight into Lazard's power and energy group?
Targeting a few of these places for FT - any recent insight into these groups?
MS still the best although they normally don’t take FT spots. I would be surprised if Citi had open FT spots too.
