Cold-c

I have a call with a VP of a small investment bank on Monday. I am just a freshman(soph by credit). I basically cold messaged him on linkedin. What should my main topics be? Should I ask him for an internship opportunity? How to go about that? This is my first time and i'm stressed af pls help me out.

Show you have real interest. Ask him about how the boutique positions in the market or what his day to day is, bankers love to talk about themselves. Also, if the boutique is small you should ask him about dealflow and how they are doing, this actually interests you since if the boutique is too small you will not find this info easily and this kind of questions really prove you are serious. Any other kind of questions about getting into Investment banking and the VP's experience will be useful to ask

Do not ask him about an internship, he already knows why you are cold calling him and if he sees you are interested he will take care of getting you a formal interview

Good luck

Agree with everything stated here. You want to be able to show your interest through the questions you ask. Find any info you can and ask questions that are tailored to this bank specifically. If you do this and come off as personable, there is likely a good chance that you’ll be able to land an interview.

Don't confuse motion with progress. You can run in place all day, doesn't mean you'll be moving forward.
