Cold Email's to Alumni CEO's, advice on format and questions in post

I'm currently a senior in college, graduating in December. I'm looking for job opportunities through my alumni network right now and found two higher up's from my school. One is the head of a construction company, the other the founder of a big developer.

I reached out to a mutual contact at one of the companies who hasn't responded yet, was wondering if I should mentioned I reached out to her in the email to one of them (thoughts?). The second is in general how should I format these emails. I was planning on writing a generic "Name, from this school, senior, interested in dev/construction" but based on what I've read here this seems to be the wrong thinking. So how should I craft it to include my exp with developers and my real estate cert (starting CRE Cornell cert in Jan) when my major in unrelated (IT). Any advice would be appreciated.

 

If I'm understanding correctly, I wouldn't tell the person you're speaking with that you emailed also emailed them.

Just ask to get on the phone with them and during the phone call when your interest in real estate comes up you can mention the certificate. You don't want to ask for a job in your initial contact email. In the email, mention that you're alumni from the same school and that you're looking to learn more about the industry and that you'd love to chat with them over the phone sometime within the next week.

 

Sorry to clarify, I would tell the Founder of dev (alumni), that I reached out to a development project manager in his company, I would tell her(I reached out to the alumni) as well because I was going to mention her name.

To clarify I meant in the email to the CEO that I've been in contact with x lower level employee, reason for why or why not to include at end of email?
