Confused on Credit Suisse Direct Equity Partners, Piper Jaffray Merchant Banking/Private Equity, PE at I-Banks in general
Hey does anyone know anything about the DEP group at Credit Suisse or the merchant banking group at Piper Jaffray as it relates to pay, culture, exit opps as an analyst? are these groups similar to Goldman's PFI group? How are private equity funds at investment banks viewed in general? It seems like when people talk about private equity opportunities, they always refer to stand alone private equity firms, not funds housed within the investment bank umbrella. Seems to me like starting out in one of these groups would translate more to learning about investing on the job and transferrable skillset to other PE funds than traditional IBD, which would mean better exit opps to megafunds/ MM PE in two years? Please enlighten a monkey who wants to break into PE.
Hi excelmodelsXbeerbottles, no, I never sleep and so I can respond to any lonely threads (like this one) at all hours of the night. Impressive, I know ;-)
If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
bump.... Anyone know about PE groups at I-banks and how they differ from traditional PE firms?
They're still... PE firms? They raise money from LPs, they screen investments, they commit dollars to deals.. What sort of explanation are you looking for? Literally the only difference is the parent firm.
Just unsure how starting your career within the PE division of an i-bank differs from the traditional ib route or PE analyst route at a buyout shop. Would appreciate some color with regards to exit opps.
