Consumer Retail Private Equity

Hi everybody - I'm interested in consumer retail PE and was wondering whether it'd be better generally to be in a more traditional group like FSG/M&A or C+R coverage to break in.

Additionally, would anyone be willing to share info on consumer shops out there that have done well for themselves in this space (I know Catterton and TSG are well-known), and are there any good ways to find more info on the less-known players out there? Thanks!

Depends... M&A is the easy answer in that you can work on Consumer/Retail deals within a M&A group.

That said there are some well regarded Consumer/Retail groups. Get an offer then go from there.

Never go to a sponsors group... It is great from a network standpoint and most Sponsors MDs will help analysts get jobs, but you won't really build a great skillset over your 2 years. If you want to do LBO/Buyout go M&A. If you want to go Distressed go Restructuring.
