Corp Dev / Strategy Comp?

Hey everyone - Know this has been discussed in the past but seems most of the information is dated. Curious if anyone has insight into what someone (<5 years of experience), may expect to earn moving into a Corporate Strategy / Development group at a F100 firm.

also would be helpful to hear any information on salary progression (from entry level to Director) if at all possible!

any information would be helpful here and any information on business school placement from a platform like this would also be great!

If a couple years of prior background in IB, and I'd assume similar with MBB or other great consulting experience, I'd expect base of ~$100K with ~15-20% bonus target. It'd likely be a bit higher in tech (perhaps with some stock component), and perhaps higher if in NYC too.

If closer to 4-5 years of experience in IB, PE, or MBB-type consulting, I'd shoot for ~$120-$150K base assuming you'd come in at a manager or sr manager level. At this level, bonus target may be 5-10% higher than at a senior analyst level, and you may get some SBC at non-tech firms at this point. $200K all-in would be very solid, at least outside of tech.

You've narrowed to Fortune 100 which helps keep rigidity to your list. I'd argue Corp dev / strategy varies greatly by company, leadership, how important they find that function to be, and candidates' pedigree. My understanding of NYC with the caveat that analyst is kind of a crapshoot because Corp dev teams (especially lean ones) tend not to have super junior people brought on.

Edit: fuck my list, MMBanker14 is pretty spot on, I've seen people with 1-3 years IBD + 1-4 years CD at 200k TC, maybe a bit more.

As posters have said above it really just depends a lot from group to group. What I've seen in corp dev from various positions I've come across:

  • 2-3 years IB / similar experience -> Senior Analyst ~$100k base with ~15% bonus
  • ~5ish years IB / similar experience -> Manager ~$150k all in compensation

These were from positions in mid-tier cities and were mostly F500 companies.

From my own personal experience (Not F100):

LMM portfolio company in T3 city:

  • Little/No exp -->Analyst ~$50-60K + 10%
  • 2nd year Analyst ~$60-70K + 15%
  • (Assumed) Associate ~$80-$90K with all in around ~$110K+

Took a job at a MF backed portfolio company in NYC after 2 years:

  • Associate/Manager ~$120-150K + 20-30%

I recently finished my two years and IB and got two offers in corp dev:

One was a tech startup (but valued at around $5bn EV from VCs) and offered around 110 all in (90 base, 10% bonus, around 10k in stock)

the other was a more established tech company and offered 120 base and 10% bonus (no stock); this is on the pretty high end from speaking to peers

Have two data points:

  • 150K for a first year analyst
  • 400K for a VP

These are at 2 separate firms that have been decently acquisitive in the last few years.
