Corp Development roles outside of tech
From reading up on previous threads, it looks like the vast majority of corp dev jobs are in the tech industry. Disney seems to have a great program, and I'm sure big pharma players do as well. What about all the other industry verticals? Are corp dev positions out of industries like consumer or industrials extremely rare?
Thanks ahead of time.
What about energy companies? Thoughts on those guys?
Don't quote me on this, but wouldn't energy still have a lot? I know Exxon and Chevron are making huge moves in nat gas/alternative energy, so they'd probably be buying smaller companies in that space. Plus, Chevron has had other huge acquisitions like Texaco, etc. I bet they're fairly active.
Thanks anyway, SB to you.
Yes on energy companies.

sorry to bump such an old post... was just curious about corp. dev positions at financial institutions. I know most ppl shit on FIG for the tendency to pigeonhole with regards to exit ops. Despite this, it seems one natural exit is to a corporate development/strategy role at a financial institution. Was just curious if anyone has made this move or has any thoughts regarding such a role and compensation/lifestyle/transitioning. Thanks
It's harder to break into IMO and there are probably fewer opportunities. I know a guy that used to work CorpDev at Wells. He since moved over to its IBD as an MD of M&A. He said he enjoyed it and it follows most of the stereotypes (lower pay, 40-50 hour weeks unless there is a deal that needs to be closed, etc.)
Let's just say nothing about this post is correct.
@peinvestor2012..thanks for the response. I probably already know the answer to this, but how likely is it to go from FIG to corp. development at a non-financial firm. I am sure there are people who have made that leap, but I am also sure they are most likely the exception.
