credit suisse - interview info

hi,

i got first rounds with credit suisse for an ops summer analyst position...

can anyone tell me the pros and cons of CS? i hear great stuff about the people/culture there.

and does anyone know what the ops first round interview entails? is it all fit?

thanks in advance!

thanks to all for replying!

disjoint, thanks for that real in depth info. that just confirms all the positive things i heard about CS.

thing is, when a BB asks "why xyz?" whatever answer i give seems like it could be used for any other company.

pwang1, congrats on your offer! first round is an hour long...was that the case for you, too? other BBs usually have 30 min first interviews on campus.

i'm actually in liberal arts, so i don't know much technical/market related stuff. when i interviewed with another BB, they never mentioned anything about quant skills, but the recruiters from CS seemed to really stress this, so i'm kind of worried that they might ask me something of this nature...

elijahoo1:
It's all fit, a friend told me they just walked through his resume with him and he got an offer.

wow...is that so? seeing as how they didn't ask any more, he must've really charmed them.

Yea I just interviewed couple of weeks ago, got the offer and accepted...

Just be yourself, show your personality, and make sure they know that you know how to work on a team both as a leader and a contributor. Also, we stressed a lot about managing time and multitasking.

In general be in control of the interview, and try to sneak in some technicals/market current events if appropriate- they don't expect it for Ops so it might surprise them.

GL and Hope to see you this summer!

They all say you go work at the bank for the people, and like all bank they will tell you that: yes we say the same thing that all other banks say, but we really mean it!

I think it really is not a question of what is the bank's reputation regarding its culture, it is more a question of: "Do I want to be working with those people?" I think at the exception of GS who really has it's own culture, all banks are the same. Where as for reputation, Credit Suisse is excellent. They might not excel in some areas, but they kick ass in a lot of others. Another note: One thing that makes Credit Suisse slightly different is the ability to move within divisions (not too big of a jump, but if you wanted to become a trader coming from structuring, it wouldn't be too hard)

Overall, I like CS, I like its image, and I like the people I have met. Again, I am speaking for the London office, and I base my observations on career presentations and company presentations.

Mine was 1 hour.. two half hour interviews.. one with a person from Ops, and the second one with some1 from HR...

I am a liberal arts major too.. mathematical business economics... just watch cnbc n read the journal these next couple of days... when you see a term you don't know or a concept you never seen before.. look it up on investopidea or wikipedia.

I never went to a second round tho... they gave me an offer after the first round (just like elijahoo1's friend), so keep your mind that if you impress them enough, you might get insta-offer.

GL again, they have housing options too so maybe we'll be living near each other.

Definitely be yourself, show interest, and be interesting.

Ask questions about them...people love talking about themselves. "What's the hardest part of your day", "What background/major/school", "If another BB came and offered 15% salary increase, would you leave CS?"

Teamwork/accuracy + speed/and be friendly. Smile!

Also, I'd know the major market details, Fed/DJIA/Housing/Subprime, but I doubt anything else in detail.

CS has been recruiting heavly at my school for both FT and SA this year, I've heard from a few people that if they really like you they extend you an offer on the spot...my friends in the FT program and she loves it

Don't know much about Ops but when I interviewed full time for CS they didn't really ask many technical questions, other than a couple over the phone. I had 6 30 minute interviews at my final rounds, and all of them basically were trying to figure out if they thought I would be fun to work with and I had an interest and knowledge of the markets and the company. They and UBS had the easiest interview process I had by far; BS and ML were much more technical and had a higher tendency to try to grill me.

Took the offer for CS, so obviously I'm biased, but I loved my experience with the people I met.

thanks, everyone, for sharing those experiences/hints!

this insta-offer sounds awesome...i hope i really nail it. i have to prepare for two exams, as well, for the same day as the interview. ugh.

and yeah, pwang1, it's the same with me; turns out i have two 30 min interviews = 1 hour. housing option sounds really good, too.

it seems like CS is really known for its culture. i know it goes for many other BBs, too, but it seems to be more positive with CS.

for those of you who got your positions at CS, how long did it take for them to get back to you with an offer?
