Did you pick the asset class or did the asset class pick you?

What the title says, curious to hear how you decided on your niche?

I'm a broker at a local shop in Southeast FL and light industrial has been the most interesting to me.

Do you feel that shared work space concepts like WeWork will revamp demand in the office sector? What other uses do you think office will have going forward?

I Just read an article about Prologis buying some retail to convert to industrial/ flex space to make up for lack of supply, and I wonder if something similar will happen with office RE.

Asset class chose me, I have started at a well-known multifamily developer just to get a job and enter the field. I have now switched sides and work for an LP allocating capital into mid-cap funds. I am also working on several co-investments, and cover many asset classes.

I wouldn't mind switching back to the GP side in few years.

Asset class chose me. Graduated into a commercial lending program at a top 5 bank. 80% of what we did was new construction multifamily. My resume got stacked with multifamily deals. Didn't really have the ability to do anything else. A REIT ended up hiring me where I did MF acquisitions. I then went to a MF developer. I am sure if in my 1st job the majority of what we did was retail then I would be in retail, if it was office then I would be in office.
