Didn't network for FT Placement..how f***** am I?

Starting as a FT Analyst at a BB IBD and have barely networked since accepting the offer in the fall. I didn't previously intern with the bank and am from a non-core school so I have no alumni connections within the bank.
I'm hoping to get placed into a coverage group and was wondering how realistic this is being that I haven't networked? We have a "placement day" when we start so I'm assuming thats when we find out.

I know I should've networked more but I worked really heard for most of my college years to get an offer from a BB so I was kind of burnt out once I finally got the offer and wanted to enjoy the little time I had left at school without having to worry about cold emailing people again to network into placement.

Thanks in advance.

Reach out to first years (ask questions about their experience, training, work they are doing, what they do for fun), then have them put you in touch with an associate (ask similar questions, but focus on a longer term outlook, big picture - even if this is not in your career plans), next ask them to put you in touch with VPs and EDs.. If you impress them enough, they may back you when sell day arrives. Do this with at least 5 of your top groups and you will get one of them when the process starts. Just be yourself, show a genuine interest, and you will see the result.

Start networking now then. Summer tends to a be a bit quieter anyways so hopefully you get more traction, especially since you already have the offer. Just let them know that you're going to be starting FT soon and that you're interested in learning more about their group
