Do banks issue business laptops?
Haven't been issued a laptop at either of my two internships, although I was at a boutique both times, and I don't believe anywhere really issues laptops to interns anyways.
That being said, I'm currently looking to buy a new laptop, and I'm leaning towards a gaming laptop, but I don't want to be strolling into a meeting with a gaming laptop which does not look particularly professional. Should I look to buy something more professional-looking, or will a larger MM/BB bank generally provide me a business laptop for travel and such?
My MM issued Lenovo Thinkpads that you hooked up to a docking station at work and could take home. Same for my friend at a different bank. Just ask HR if you're not sure.

If I can recall correctly, for banks that issue laptops usually give them a thinkPad. JPM I know does as well as GS. This is a powerful computer and won't make you look like a kid still living in his moms basement.
You won't be using your personal laptop for work, you shouldn't even be able to plug a USB drive into your work computer. Huge security issue. If you need a laptop you will be issued one.
Do most major banks' IT actively prevent external devices? I've never of heard of their security measures - do you know what else they generally restrict other than the standard fare?
its supposed to be flagged if you email an attachment to a gmail/yahoo account, especially your own. I'll post more as I think of them
Yes, you couldn't plug in a non-bank approved USB into your computer at my bank. Made for some fun times when we had clients into the office or were trying to set up a presentation for a bank meeting.
Thus far every position has given me a lap top. The trade off is the occasional request comes in while I am at home. Sometimes it can help to do the petty shit from home as well.
I am partially debating on getting the docking station set up at home. The majority of my job could be done in my home office and I think the PM I work with would have zero issue with me working from home 2-3 days a week.
I went to IT and picked up an extra docking station / monitors for home. having the same setup is surprisingly nice when working from home.
