Energy Finance Career Options

I have got almost 10 years of oil and gas industry experience with 70% in international settings (engineering roles). I am going to join one of the M7 MBA programs (east coast) and looking to move in energy finance role after that. What are the career options available in energy finance? Who are the major recruiters and what approach should I follow to increase my chances? I am an international candidate.

Really depends on what you're looking for, lots of options. Obviously all major banks will have energy groups (O&G and power), infrastructure funds, internal corporate development and finance (many oil majors and big utilities have MBA rotational programs), independent energy project developers, PE, VC, startups, etc. If you're going to MBA business schools">M7 all of them will have energy clubs, network with your classmates and see what other folks have done and are interested in. HBS, Wharton, MIT, and other all have energy conferences and case competitions.

Thanks. I was looking for an insider view if it is posible to break in finance with 10 years of industry technical experience without any previous finance related work experience. Does it make sense to consider MBA major in finance or is it too late for that? Will international experience give extra advantage while applying for such roles in energy groups of banks?

It's definitely possible, I'm a current MBA, energy sector career switcher with no finance background, recruiting for IB with one early BB offer. Based on what I've seen during informationals and networking, it's not uncommon at all, especially with the MBA associate recruiting process laid out very clearly. I used my prior experiences to sell myself as a subject matter expert, and had to just spend a lot of time learning finance technicals through my school finance club resources. 10 years might be a little on the longer side compared to others but I wouldn't say its too late.
