Equity Research Group Sector Presence

Hey guys, I was hoping to familiarize myself and get an idea of which firms' equity research teams specialize/have a strong presence in what sector. Would anybody that has had experience in industry be able to provide insight? The size of the company doesn't really matter to me. It can range from a BB IB to an independent research shop. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I'd tell you (and I think a lot of people on here will tell you the same) that analysts carry more weight than sectors. In IB, banks have renown groups whereas in ER, banks or even sectors have renown analysts.

Because of this, the bank you're at doesn't matter as much as what analyst you work for (at least imo). For example, the guy covering semis at some no-name boutique could be 100x better than the guy who covers semis at goldman.

ER is a very equal playing field in the sense that you are picking stocks v. doing deals. Put another way, if a tech company goes public, they will choose GS/JPM/MS as their lead and a boutique bank might not even be able to land a meeting from them. But in ER, anyone can cover anything and being right is being right, anyone can write good research, and so forth.
