Family office perception/exit opps

Spoke with a friend who works in a public markets focused (but still with some exposure in different investment types) family office. Seems like a lot of the information on this is a bit stale.

Was curious if anyone had knowledge on how young professionals leaving these places for b-school or other opportunities typically do? Would this mostly lend itself to jobs at a HF or asset manager or would there be optionality elsewhere? Also curious to see how the lifestyle, responsibilities, and comp may stack up against similar roles at non-family offices. Seems to be a lot more of these opportunities popping up. Thanks!
