Family office exit opps to private equity

I am curious, I am just starting to ping headhunters and folks in my network but have not received that much feedback/success - have not been aggressive yet, but wanted to test waters...

Core of my question is how relevant is my experience to lateraling to another fund?

  • 6 years of IB experience across bulge bracket (tier 2, think Citi/BAML) and reputable middle-market IB
  • Joined family office 2 years ago. Have not closed any new platform investments, but have closed multiple add-ons and closed two exits (combined EV well over $1bn). Relocated outside of NYC for this experience (still east coast, but not commutable)

No MBA, state school.

Thoughts on how family office experience can translate to a more traditional private equity role, if at all? Geography is key factor here.
