Finace Career Paths
Ok so I am currently a freshman and know I am interested in working on wall street.(Or something to do with it.) I was pretty set thinking that I wanted S&T or investment banking but I see that there are other opportunities.Here are the careers I see to feel are associated with wall street:
investment banking
S&T
equity reseach
PWM/Asset Management
venture capitalis
private equity
hedge fund
(please tell me if I have missed anyhting)
Could you give me an estimated starting salaries of all these(Bulge Bracket). As well as ranking them from hardest to break into to easiest? I am really trying to get a feel for the competitiveness of different careers. Thank you.
hahahaha
For starters, most firms will like to see that you not only have a reasonable grasp of fundamental concepts in finance (also how to appropriately spell the given field of study)... apart from that since you are a freshman, the best advice I could give would be to do your research. You can literally Google every single thing you just mentioned. Once you get a sense for the different career paths you will then be able to formulate more informed questions that will yield answers beneficial to you.

There you go... assuming this was not a very humorous troll (not ruling out the possibility given the syntax and grammar) you should be well on your way to finding out information... also check out the M&I blog
Finace?????? Come on man
haha wow sorry about the finance misspelling that is very enbarressing.
seriously enbarassing?
This is Finance so everything is technically difficult to break into. Except for maybe PWM. I would say all those jobs have a comparable level of difficulty--your not going to get a Megafund PE job out of college, but you might be able to land a MM PE firm.
Assume that starting salary for all those positions is 70K +10K + Bonus---
