Final Round Summer Analyst Interview with Securities at Goldman Sachs
Hi All,
I have my final round interview with GS on Monday and I was just wondering if any of you could help me out with a few things:
- Is there anything Goldman are pushing out from a brand/ culture perspective to the market at the moment?
- I understand it is 3x 30 minute interviews with MDs, does anyone know what the criteria assessed is and what to expect from the interview process?
- Are there any news stories at the moment I MUST have an awareness of, and similarly any you think will be quite quick and easy to pick-up and would be good to have a knowledge about?
- In terms of the fundamentals behind how trading works and what drives separate markets and products, do you know of a good video guide series?
- Anything else you think could help!
Thanks in advance!

I've searched through years of WSO posts and couldn't find a clear-cut answer.
Are they more fit/technical? any brainteasers? Can someone who has gone through the securities SA recruiting process with GS give some insight?
I have a first round coming up and wanted to know what I'm up against.
1st round for S&T... -tell me about a time when you displayed leadership, teamwork, multi-tasking, etc. -where do you see the mkt going...pitch some stocks -why GS **1st rds were very basic. just try to connect with interviewer
2nd rounds -few brainteasers (pretty simple) -what area of securities (equity vs FICC & why) -more in depth discussions about the mkt. dont mention something that you aren't willing to talk about for 2-5 minutes. Ex: Don't start speaking about sub-prime if you can't walk the guy though what went wrong on multiple levels
good luck...
This is too early to have an interview, are you traveling abroad?
first round for me was purely fit. hardest question i got was to give my interviewer examples of how i make quick decisions.
what school do you go to that you're already getting an interview?
harvard?
p.s. i'm at a state school, do i have any hope in hell of getting an interview for the spring securities program?
have to be more specific than "state school"
GS is conducting interviews for students going abroad in the Spring semester at my school.
GS did on-campus interviews at my state school (semi-target) last year for ibanking and securities internships. I'll be out of here before January so I won't know for sure but in this environment who knows if they'll be back.
If you go to a state school your chances this year are about 1000000000:1. Sorry bro. There were only a handful out of 175 last year.
Apply online and check over the next month or so to see if they will be on campus. Otherwise be creative and network. Low odds don't keep people from playing the lottery and it shouldn't keep you from trying.
i worked middle-to-front at lehman ,and currently go to a top 55 state school (UsNews rankings)
no interviews on campus.....
SA interviews weren't listed for ML and GS until January for my school; OCR occured only 4 weeks after being listed.
Be sure to be able to speak about everything you put on your resume in lenght. I was just asked fit questions, plus all of my interviewers really wanted to know about certain things that I had put on my resume and I ended up talking about it for more than 10 minutes. I didn't get any technical questions whatsoever, only the "pitch a stock" kind. Good luck!
There are only a handful of state school kids @ every BB not just GS. Obviously, it will be difficult coming from a non ivy, but it is not impossible. Your odds are better than whatever this guy above gave if you network your ass off and kill the interview. I know multiple kids at GS who went to very good state schools. Good luck.
I think McGyver was responding specifically to the poster who wanted to get into the Spring Securities Program.
i have no idea why anyone would rather intern with s&t than ibd. correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems like almost no one gets offers after the summer.
You stand corrected. One of many S&T SA's with FT offers. As for the why, because I am interested in trading, not investment banking.
