firm's HR website asks that you not contact MD's for inquiries, does this mean I shouldn't attempt to network with them?
The careers page for the firm's hr specifically states, "We ask that you do not contact our senior officers directly with respect to recruiting inquiries. Please follow the instructions provided within this Careers site."
Does this mean I shouldn't email them asking them about their career, information, etc.
Yes, do exactly as HR says and send your resume into the abyss that is the career site.
You can always network with the not senior officers.
Houlihan Lokey huh? I just emailed an MD my resume with the subject line of "I made this for you" and no text body
I'm expecting good results. If that doesnt work I'll just walk into the office and say hi.
Yes.
I'm not looking to send my resume or cover letter. I feel like that would be too much. I'm genuinely looking to network with someone mainly to speak about their career path and advice they can offer.
If you know anything about the firm, can you tell me if that would be unacceptable? I'm terrified I would get an "auto ding" if I emailed an MD asking him about his career path.
