First Interview Help

Hi everyone,

Late this month or early August I'll have my first investment banking interview for an internship. I've never had any internships in the banking/finance sector and am unsure what to expect. To prepare for it I'll be doing tons of research but am unsure as to what I should focus on. For reference, it's a boutique firm whose interns go on to intern at large BBs. I appreciate any links or tips!

Thanks,

Luis

Might be worth it to invest in an interview guide. WSO has some resources here: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/guide/investment-banking-interview-prep-….

Definitely have a good idea of what investment banking actually is and what it is not. Have your story down pat and have a good reason for why you want to do investment banking. Know the financial statements, what DCF/comps are, etc. If it's a boutique firm, there will likely be mostly behavioral/fit questions. Stay humble, be positive, energetic, etc. Ask intelligent and thoughtful questions.

Thank you! Have you ever used any of these?

That's excellent! I was worried that I would have to deal with some technical questions about modeling, excel processes, etc.

I've used the WSO Interview Guide. It gives a good run down of the types of technical questions you'll see, as well as some techniques for crafting your story.

Don't be overly eager to demonstrate your technical knowledge once you learn it - let them ask you about it if they want to. Just be yourself, relaxed, humble, and you'll knock it outta the park.

Thanks again! Too bad the individual guides aren't sold separately, I'm not sure about shelling out $200 for it.
