Future of Placement Agents

What do you guys see as the future of placement agents in the industry for PE, HF, Real Estate, Alternative Credit, etc..? I know the industry and business is relatively young 20 years however there has been some regulation hurting it recently. Placement agents also spend a lot of money on lobying and I've heard from friends in the business that it can be lucrative once you start to get closer to the origination. My HF/PE prospects aren't really existent, and I'm looking to leave banking into a more salesy type of gig, but maybe do this by going to other business lines within the bank instead. Either way am interested in knowing how much an analyst/associate at a placement agent can make and what the long term career development within the industry is.
