Getting Ghosted? Is this normal?

Recently had a first-round with a private equity firm and was told that they would reach out to me soon but never did. I sent follow-up emails and got no response. Never had this happen before so was curious to get your opinions on it.

I have been ghosted before, by smaller PE shops but also medium sized banks. Larger companies with HR processes normally send you auto-rejection letters with the usual stuff.

Ghosting is normally unprofessional, especially in VC and PE, where the world is fairly small. You wouldn't bring this up on a deal when you work with them in the future, but it leaves a bad taste....

Happens all the time. I have 15 years work experience, 10 of which is in PE - I'm a principal at a shop in NY.

About a year ago some "executive" recruiter reached out to me about an opportunity and I wasn't really interested but I had a call to network. He said he would follow up the next day with the name of the group and asked if I would meet some big shot. I agreed and he ghosted me on the call - total no show. I reached out to him and never heard back.

I opted to contact his boss to discuss the experience and he was fired. Karma.
