GS Ops vs. MS PWM
Im currently deciding between GS ops or MS PWM for an internship this summer, my goal is to apply to full time IBD next year. I do also have IBD experience under my belt.
Which summer internship would be better to leverage for a full time IBD in the future?
Honestly man both are gonna be pretty tough to leverage into full-time IB (assuming you’re going to be a senior next year). Probably MS PWM will be slightly better considering the client facing nature of the role, and you’ll actually have some exposure to financial analysis at least.
Thanks for the response. You're def right that it will be difficult to leverage Ops or PWM alone into full-time IBD; but I am also a part time IBD intern at a well-regarded boutique rn during the school year, so ill also have relevant experience with financial modeling and working on deals.
Ive been networking hard too, hopefully i can pull it off! :)
I mean, as far as BO gigs go, GS Ops is top of the heap. BUT, it's still BO. MS PWM will probably help you build more transferrable skills. Great predicament to be in though.
If you were gunning specifically for either one of the two then develop rapport there. However, I agree with the client facing aspect of PWM.
GS's internal mobility is quite terrible... as someone who was unable to move between FO between summers I can speak to the fact that it will be hard to move to front office from back office after your internship.
Go MS and don't look back. Only reservation is a question - is the MS for a local office or at a main hub?
