Has anyone ever felt pigeonholed?

Has anyone ever felt pigeonholed into a certain sector? Or were covering a certain sector that they didn’t necessarily care for? I’m currently a research analyst covering municipals at an ~$200-250 billion fund. While I enjoy the research aspect of my job I do not particularly care for munis. Has anyone ever navigated out of this situation? Or have any general advice on how to change career trajectory. Should I just stay in hopes that a muni PM spot opens up even though I don’t enjoy munis? Or should I go back to school and get a mba? Any advice will be appreciated.
