Help Deciding Between Real Estate Textbooks

I've decided I want to pick up a textbook to read and develop a strong fundamental understanding of Real Estate finance and the Real Estate market in general.

I'm trying to decide between "Linneman Associates: Real Estate Finance and Investments 5th edition" ($150)
and "Real Estate Finance and Investment" by William Brueggeman and Jeffrey Fisher ($100 used)

The Linneman is more expensive but seems to have more external support through excel which would be helpful.

The second is cheaper and recommended on Select Leaders professional resources.

Does anyone have any personal experience with these texts and which would be the better buy?

I am pretty sure that I have both......

If you have a background in finance then Linneman without a doubt. It is very in depth and gives a very detail oriented view in to everything. No detail is skipped over. However I felt that the book assumed some type of background in finance (which I didn't have) so it made the book a tough read for me.

Fishers book is pretty good. It is much easier to understand and in my opinion didn't assume as much of a financial background to understand the book. Both are pretty long and cover a good amount of topics.

If you have a background in finance go with linneman, if not go with fisher.

I just dropped $100 on the newest version of this book. Wish this post was a few weeks older haha.
