Help with watch purchase
Can anyone help me out with a watch recomendation? I have a leather band Citizen ecodrive as well as a cheap sieko that ive had since sophomore year. I just started as an analyst and want to invest in a nicer metal band watch to wear at work. Would like to spend around 1k. Any recomended brands to look at, places to buy, or models?
Dressier: Frederique Constant Slimline, Baume & Mercier Classima
Sports: Hamilton, Tissot. You also might be able to find a previously owned Tag Heuer Aquaracer for around that price
Don't buy a Tag, new or used. Otherwise agree with above, Hamilton makes some nice workhorse pieces and B&M on the dessier side for sure.
Honestly I'd say keep sporting that Citizen for another year and when you're ready for drop 3-4K get back into the search, you'll find a much wider array containing some pretty unique pieces. I personally prefer a boutique versus online (look up your local dealers) but good previous experience with Chrono24.
Baume is awesome. Have a bunch of their stuff and love it. Look on watchuseek forums and you can find watches that retail for much more way less used. Just resell when you get bored and you won't really lose money if you do even a little bit of research before buying. I have a ton of watches but they basically cost me $0 because of that. Also it's kind of fun hunting more rare pieces that way too.
IWC or bust
I would keep rocking the Citizen and save up (if you really want) and get a higher end piece.
Save money
Agree to save up until you can buy something you genuinely want that you can use for decades if taken care of.
Otherwise you’ll buy this watch and in two years go buy a nicer one anyway cause that’s what you really want. Nothing wrong with rocking a citizen as an analyst for a couple years. Save up and go for the one you’ll be cool with wearing for many years. Probably will actually save you money to wait and shell out more cash for a nicer piece.
It sounds like the consensus is that I should wait and save for something nicer.
Thank you!
"The Urban Gentry" is probably the best watch review blogger. For individual watch breakdown, "Watchfinder & Co." is pretty good. I also look at review from "The Time Teller". "Theo and Harris" is a bit controversial and not everyone is a fan of them.
In addition to these, ablogtowatch is a good one.
I agree with finbrah, tbh nobody really cares what watch you wear if it looks the part.
Still you might want to check this thread out.
Get a Gucci watch. Not only are they quality, the other analysts will know you're a big shot.
Frederique Constant all the way for a starter watch - some of the chrono versions are sick and even under $700
If you spend a little more than $1,000, you should be able to pick up a nice Longines.
d.freemont Christopher Ward Certina In that order
I have a Baume & Mercier Classima Core Auto Dual Time which cost about $1300. I think it's beautifully understated and has a nice dark blue alligator strap that can be mistaken for black (aka can match more). Great lowkey watch that still has a nice movement and looks expensive upon further inspection.
I used to have some $250 fashion watch that was black strap and rose gold that got way more compliments - but really didn't mean much to me. It was just more noticeable.
Just my three cents.
In 40 years at 8% interest, $1000 is $21,724... something to think about
In all seriousness, if you buy a watch, be sure to buy a nice man watch
I always wanted a manly man watch
