How bad does it look transferring from a semi-target to a large state school?

TL;DR I currently attend Lehigh university, and am unhappy and wish to transfer. Would transferring to OSU Fisher be career suicide? Has anyone here managed to transfer into IU Kelly?

Hi WSO,

I currently attend Lehigh university, which isn't exactly a target school, but it isn't an immediate red flag on a resume either. I've had my eyes set on IB since my Junior year of highschool (I find the subject matter fascinating, and I've always made my best work in high pressure & fast paced environments.).

I've had a hard time fitting in at Lehigh. I don't need to go into details, but socially I'm not really where I want to be & have had some complications with the medical center which left a nasty taste in my mouth, and I'm trying to transfer out. Obviously I'm applying to target schools for IB, but transfer admissions are a black box and I can't guarantee admissions into schools like Northwestern, UChicago, .etc. I'm applying to OSU and IU as safety schools, but I'm a little apprehensive about them, since I will always prioritize long term career aspirations over short term social issues. Do you have any thoughts about OSU/IU for IB?

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure for OSU and IU that once you get admitted into the school itself you still have to apply as a standard admit into the business school to be admitted which I have heard is very difficult, similar to schools such as UNC and UVA. Also IU is an excellent school for IB and can get you almost any BB/EB position (with the right credentials of course) if you are in the in their investment banking workshop/network. Albeit that is a difficult feat of its own. If I were you I’d also target schools such as UVA and UNC which have excellent placement into IB as well. McIntire is comparable to Ross in terms of best state school business programs with IU Kelley, UT Austin, and UNC Chapel Hill not far behind.
