How did you choose your industry group?

Hey all,

My general understanding of Private Equity industry placement is that it does depend on the industry of your prior banking group.

Moreover, while some PE funds have generalist programs, they also have industry specific funds like Blackstone’s Energy Capital Partners or say Infrastructure.

How do you go about interviewing through oncycle recruiting when the industry you’re interested in isn’t the one you’re currently in?

Lastly, how did those of you in PE decide what industry you wanted to do? That is if you even had the liberty to make that choice.

Would appreciate any insights!
