how do employers verify internship history?

How much do employers scrutinize this? Do they check just the firm and the dates interned or do they check for the position name as well and what division you worked in? I am asking because I rotated between 2 depts but I want to put IB instead of the other dept to make my skills closer to the IB jobs I'm applying for.

So do banks check the position?

I believe it's role, date and firm. Now what you should do is put IB as the name and for the first descriptive bullet, just put rotational program on desks A and B. Then focus largely on the IB experience. No one really cares about this stuff (unless you outright lie about being in IB when you were in ops or something), but this way you cover your bases.

similar question here. I worked in equity research at a boutique unpaid, did a project with IB and now I'm recruiting for FT and was wondering if I can put investment banking and not get in trouble during background check. I heard they only check for dates.
