How Important Is Networking?

I am applying to 2022 summer internships and haven't networked at all since I was crazy busy this semester.  Is it too late to start networking if I sent in apps and if not how would I go in reaching out to people from my school?

Know this: I am at a target for a particular top group and they ran two processes last summer because of Covid. Even though I (in the words of the career center head) was the top candidate at my school, the group didn’t shortlist me the first time around for a phone screen. After the first process, I networked with them and got the interview invite in the second process and was the only one to get the offer.

Here, networking was the key for me even though I had a great resume. Thus, would mention that networking is really important.

I go to a top 10 school and would say that I have a decent resume although my GPA is on the lower side this is made up for by my activities section.  So I am assuming that if I network I could be in a similar position as you were?

Yeah, good networking with a good resume makes for a killer combination. One without the other will make it very difficult to recruit at the best place. I seriously networked at 4 banks looking back now and I got superdays from 3 of them (one bank had a selective hirevue as a first-round and I suck at hirevues so didn't get past).
