How often do y’all go out / drink?

Went out last night after being sober for a couple months and feel like a train hit me. Tequila shots didn't help, and although I had fun, I don't see myself drinking for a while.

In college I'd go out pretty much every weekend and even during the week. Nearing my mid-20's but seems like people still go to trashy bars that just blast music really loud well into their 30's. Think a more laid-back bar where you can actually hear what people are saying is now my scene but all my friends are still degenerates

I'm a very social guy (which is why I love Manhattan!) so will usually do at least 2/3 of Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night + at least one of Sunday afternoon or Thursday night. Then there's often one other odd weeknight where you have a date, happy hour, etc (to the extent you want to count that). So more days than not, really.

Only for meaningful events. Between works and being deeply invested in a hobby (Men's Physique which is an arm of bodybuilding), there's not really the capacity to go out like that. In college, yes like 3x a week was a sure thing. Now, even if there was time I'd prefer to just get high, unwind, and honestly just sleep.

Yeah definitely. If helpful, I'm currently being coached by a Men's Physique Olympian competitor, so I'll describe the way programming works currently.

Currently, training 5x a week.

1) Chest, Shoulders, Triceps (Chest focused)

2) Legs (Quad focused)

3) Back and Biceps

4) Chest, Shoulders, Triceps (Shoulder focused)

5) Back, Biceps, Hamstrings

Generally, ~2-4 exercises per muscle group per session with 2-4 working sets. Incorporate high intensity training methodologies, such as drop sets, super sets, etc. Primary lifts are focused on getting stronger in the 10 rep range while lifts later in the workout are more in the 12-15 rep range. Abs 3x per week.

To be honest, I'd say the 2 big things I was missing prior to having a coach (as someone who was still really into everything) was

1) Workout intensity. Prior wouldn't probably push myself as much as I could.

2) Diet. Counted macros for 4 years or so now, but I now eat 5 meals a day (different training / rest day macros) with 1 cheat meal a week. Most meals contain ~5 oz meat, varying carb sources, and vegetables.

Oh also: 8-10k steps per day with 15-20 minutes of "cardio" (Getting heart rate to ~130)

In college, probably like 5 times a week. This was before I started recruiting and then after I got my offer. During recruiting it was probably like once a week. Now I go out probably 2-3 times a week

Was a massive drinker and used to get wasted every other day, but I completely stopped due to concerns about the effects of alcohol on health, weight and ageing. I only ever have one drink or two once a month if I'm with good company nowadays.

Really have started to get away from getting absolutely busted 3 times a week. I enjoy waking up not feeling like shit and feel much more productive. Can also workout more days since I'm not hungover and usually just send it on Saturday. Would rather spend free days golfing or a nice dinner with the girl or friends than blacking out at the same dive bar we go to every week

College: Once or twice a month

Post-college: once to three times a week

During Medical School: 3x a week (Unless it's exam week then I don't do anything)

Interested in health tech, consulting, and entrepreneurship.

Agree with you OP, only drink maybe once a month. Does anyone know any chill bars that are good for hanging out with friends that aren't blasting music in east/west village/lower manhattan?

Nov 9, 2021 - 2:37pm

I have not gone out with the express purpose of drinking in years. Probably go out to dinner once every two weeks and have a glass or two of wine / beer, max. I'm in my early 30s and alcohol makes me feel like shit / is antithetical to my fitness goals.

Anyone just spend some time pouring themselves a nice scotch and sipping it at home? I drink less than college of course, but I also drink way better stuff. Maybe I am just trying to make myself feel more sophisticated lol.

a couple times a month these days, just bc i am goal-oriented and find drinking to be a bit contradictory. Also alcohol is so expensive that I realized I just feel better not drinking. I drink maybe once a month and it's just a social 1-3 drinks

Razja

Also alcohol is so expensive

I get 12 white claws for $15 - that's not expensive.

Pre-covid: I would say that I drank fairly hard about 2x a week. On average I'd say one of those nights was at a bar/rave/concert and the other was just kickin it with friends

Now, with covid winding down and me being in my late 20s I would stay I still drink "enthusiastically" about 2x a week, but 1 of those nights is probably just at home with my girlfriend or playing video games with the guys, and the other night is at a friends place or having a group over to our place. Once the vax rate gets a little better I'll start going out more again, but I'm pretty much over going to trashy bars and paying 12$ for margaritas made with sour mix. The only bars I really want to go to again are rum or tequila bars with good selections and properly made cocktails.

4-6 drinks a month would be the max. Been sober for about 2-3 months at least now (by personal choice, no health reasons).

Back in college? Probably a tad too much lol. I remember my blood tests right after college indicated borderline elevated liver enzymes.

Nov 10, 2021 - 4:53pm

I drink more frequently than in college, but the amount is much, much less. I'll have a glass of wine or cocktail (or two), probably 2-3 weeknights, and then pretty much every Friday/Saturday/Sunday I'll also have a few glasses of wine/beer/cocktail, with the occasional going out to bars where I drink more (I'd say twice per month).

This thread just furthers my wanting to own liquor stores.

For anybody in Manhattan that's got other professional entrepreneurial startup goals that they dream of, in exchange of their time drinking, give me a shout.
