How to ask for an extension on SA offer deadline

Was given 14 days to respond to an offer for SA 2022. It expires next Tuesday; I have 2 final rounds the week it expires (after the expiration date), and 2 more the week after it expires. I am going to ask for an extension on the offer, but how should I phrase it? Should I simply say I need more time to think it over? Should I mention that I want to see my other interview processes through? I like the firm I received an offer from, but I also like the places I'm currently interviewing. I would genuinely really like to have the chance to compare all the offers I end up getting so I can make an educated decision.

Theres a story my grandparents told me. A dog had a bone in his mouth when he saw a reflection of himself from the water of a pond. He barked at it wanting more and lost the bone he had in his mouth.

Now hes got none.

Was in similar position but had bank extend offer at 4 pm on a Friday and give me until end of day the following Tuesday (4 day exploding offer). Called around and used it as leverage at other places. Only works if you have similar offers. If one of your SD’s is a lot better than the offer, they won’t push up your deadline. Also, could accept the offer and email the SD’s that you want to keep in touch and could circle back next year for FT as long as you drop from SD on good terms. As for asking for an extension, I don’t know there. The bank also wants to know sooner so they don’t lose more people from their SD’s who may be interviewing elsewhere right now, so getting an extension might be tough.

How did you leverage with only 4 days? My issue is that a lot of my processes either can't be accelerated or are just starting. Appreciate the advice. In terms of extending, the bank I got an offer from is at the beginning of their SA process so I don't think they're worried about losing more people

Told them about my deadline and that I was gonna sign it if I can’t have a decision by then because I prefer certainty. One place accelerated, the other didn’t. Problem with the acceleration though was that bank on Monday said they also wanted a decision by Tuesday to match the timelines so also watch out for that (that offer also had other shadiness going on like needing a verbal before sending a formal offer letter or providing a salary).

But to your point about it being early, it doesn’t matter that it’s early. In video game terms, if the bank sees you as a 95 overall and is going to extend an offer to a 94 overall kid if you don’t accept, an extension of even a week could mean the 94 signs elsewhere and the bank that extended is screwed if you don’t sign after that extra week. If that makes sense

If they are comparable places just accept the offer. If you are in the process with a much better place, I'd still accept and you can always reneg if it's night and day difference, obviously you don't reneg for example a US BB for another US BB because that's offensive. You can try to accelerate the process but I wouldn't push too much and they usually don't do it unless they are very close (e.g. GS might accelerate you if you have an offer from MS)
