How to consider applying for a company heading towards $0?

How's it going everybody

I was fortunate enough to spend my summer interning for the South African branch of a well known US company. Things went extremely well, but I did have to end up coming back to New York to finish my final school year and work on landing a full time. My manager was extremely helpful and is willing to write me a recommendation for the New York City office if I ever consider applying. I am definitely going to take him up on that (cause who the fuck am I not to?) however, this is a company that has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Their stock price is plummeting for what is perceived to be a flawed business plan and there is talks that the CEO might sell. The company also just made a recent acquisition in an effort to shift focus I'm presuming.

How would you guys approach applying for a job at a company not performing well at all in the stock market, and what would you keep in mind?
