How to negotiate 3rd year analyst salary w/ Big 4 MM IB?
I'm interviewing for a 3rd year analyst position at a big 4 MM IB. I have 4 years of work experience, 2 at a BB IB as a tech analyst/Proj Mgr, and a year left on my MBA from a top program known for its finance curriculum.
I have ongoing interviews for front office IB positions at the same BB, plus external entrepreneurship opps (small business I'm building/running with a partner).
How would having several years of experience, a year left on my MBA, entrepreneurial opps, and interest from a top BB IB impact my ability to negotiate for the B4 IB Analyst 3 position? Also, B4 IB does tend to pay a bit less, but I'm looking to use their strong need for new analysts to my advantage.
Would trying to anchor negotiations by starting with 127k be asinine? The aim would be to either get a bite, or land in the high 100s/110s.
Of course this is above average BB IB pay levels, but my goal is to end up on the right side of the curve, so industry averages can only inform analysis slightly.
I've had difficulty learning about the highest base pay for analyst 3's, so hoping to get some advice here on where to anchor these negotiations. Thanks.
Which city? They're hiring in Houston, Chicago and NY I believe. This is important.
I'm interviewing for a position in Chicago
Do some research about FIG groups in Chicago. Possibly counter with an advanced associates promotion? PwC is a very structured company and will need a lot of convincing to move away from their current offer.
Is your MBA part time?
Aren't analysts pay pretty structured where there is no negotiation?
You have no leverage - analyst comp is structured and there really isn't any wiggle room. I would guess as an A3 you would get to $110-120 in a big 4 M&A/Corp fin group. If you're in a top MBA, why are you interviewing for a third year analyst position and not an associate gig? Comp in a big 4 Corp fin group will be significantly less than a bb or top mm bank. What are you doing this summer? With a year left in your MBA, what you do this summer will be pretty important. How are you interviewing right now? FT recruiting won't kick off until fall. Shouldn't you be in the middle of a summer associate gig?
...And $127k all is for a third year analyst is way under market. A3s made $170-190+ all in last year.
A third year ib analyst? Pretty sure we are talking about salary right? So it's 95
