How to stay in touch with PE partner after unsuccessful interview
Some background: UK Big4 audit qualified followed by Group Fp&a in a major listed corporate total experience ~ 6. Interviewed with PE Portfolio Associate type role (focusing on operational improvements but also helping with spin offs etc).
Had good interview but didn't get the offer because others had more relevant experience. Subsequently followed up and asked for career advice on what type of role to focus on as next step and was told something like Rx consulting would be best option.
Since then I've managed to get an offer in that field and wanted to follow up again, thank for advice and keep in touch.
However what does one "keep in touch about"? The PE firm is mostly MM and sector specific whilst the Rx firm is mostly focused on larger clients. Plus the PE firm mostly does the work in house so unlikely to develop into a business development opportunity...
I know that for M&A people talk about sharing articles about deals etc but there the fields are more directly related...
I've never really been one for networking at all let alone with external people...it seems irrelevant to update the person every few months with the latest Rx case I worked on.
Apologies if this seems a bit on the spectrum I am quote introverted
Tldr: how to stay in touch with PE partner so as to potentially be successful next time I apply with the firm after following his career advice.
Many thanks!

I think you actually have a pretty good handle on where to start. Fire off an e-mail thanking the guy for the coaching (you took his advice and it's working out, which is definitely a reason to follow up) and telling him a sentence or two about your new opportunity.
Then, every few months, do exactly what you said. You can also make the follow-ups more about him - "Hey, I saw you guys just closed on XYZ Company, congrats on the acquisition. We just finished an engagement in a similar sector which was interesting for these reasons. Would love to catch up over a brief call sometime! Hope all's well."
Thoughts?
Thanks glad to know I'm on the same line as him. Guess I'll just give him the update & thanks and then follow up again in a few months. As I've said I've never done networking really and the thought of having a call with someone who I only had an interview with and no other connection makes me nervous a bit.
