IB Networking & Deal Sourceing

I’m 26 years old and I live in San Francisco and just joined a new company back in July. We’re a boutique IB that focuses on debt transaction between 5-75mm in the form of traditional ABL, DIP financing, mezz, restructuring, bridge and some sell-side advisory (very small part of Business ~5%). BizDev is one of my major responsibilities at my firm and I’ve been making it a point to attend nearly every networking event possible and joining both ACG and TMA.

Ideally, we see most deals from referral sources which tend to be our capital providers. Since I’m new I don’t have an extensive network and strong enough relationships yet to be getting quality referrals.

So fellow Wall Street Monkeys, I ask you this:
What are your networking best practices?
What industry events do you attend?
What organizations do you belong to?
Who do you receive referrals from?
What are your thoughts on direct calling/marketing efforts to companies?

(If you work at a boutique, please mention that in the comments as your feedback would be especially helpful. )
