IBD Analysts, worth buying a tv and other stuff?

Really want to splurge on a good tv and other nice stuff for when I start my analyst stint next year (non NYC so cost of living is much better). Is it worth it though, or would it just be immature of me to blow my whole signing bonus on stuff like a new tv which I'll only have minimal time to actually enjoy given the long hours.

In general how much should I spend on furnishing my apartment with swag like this (nice furniture, bed, etc.) while still being at least a somewhat responsible adult? Even if I have to move to another city after the 2 years are up, I'm assuming it won't be THAT hard to move everything to a new place, right?

I'm a new Analyst in NYC at a non-Bulge Bracket paying $1850 in FiDi to share a 2 bedroom with some writer Jewish girl working at a tiny start-up (Parents subsidising her rent).

I spent the minimal on ikea furniture around ($1500) and bought the cheapest 40' TV from Amazon ($250).

Basically half my take-home pay goes to rent + utilities. Taxes eat up a TON of the semi-monthly cheque. Thought you were getting $2500 every two weeks? NOPE. NYCTax+StateTax for the win.

You don't need TV when you have Netflix + PC/laptop.

Yup, nothing like staring at a computer screen after staring at a computer screen all day..

Not sure what your setup is, but my PC setup is pretty ridiculous - HD + multiple screens

Having a large tv in a small bedroom is a bit silly imo

I say instead of buying a tv and other tech stuff you won't be able to use that much, buy a a very nice bed.

Why you ask?

Where do you spend ~1/3 of your life? In your bed. When you work 18 hours a day, what is one thing you're going to want to do when you get home? Sleep, and go to sleep fast and wake up with the best sleep possible. What won't be out of style in a year? A bed.

I bought a very expensive bed 2 years ago, and it was the best investment I could have made. Seriously. Just laying on it in the middle of the day I get tired because it makes me want to sleep.

A pretty good 42" plasma TV is like $500 these days, go for it.

It's good to be frugal, but this won't break your budget. Given that you're even asking the question leads me to believe that it's important to you and that you're going to be responsible with your $.

I'd pay a multiple of the current price of HDTVs to watch HD sports when I unwind.

This thread sucks. Why does anyone care whether you buy one or not, its a television and they cost like $500, if you watch TV then buy one. Why the hell do you need advice on this?
