IBD: Mizuho (NY) vs Nomura (NY)
Having trouble deciding between these two firms. Any information on the strengths of each would be greatly appreciated.

Mizuho is growing far quicker than Nomura, bringing in a ton of top talent at the senior level. Would go with them.
Hey, nice question. Would you mind sharing which one did you choose at last?
I've networked at both banks. People at Mizuho told me that they're now focusing on expanding their M&A advisory section. Seems like Nomura is more focused on debt deals.
Mizuho has been saying that for past 2 years..... lol
Not talking about "rising trend", go with Nomura
Go with Nomura. It’s bigger than Mizuho and does more M&A deals than them.
idk how you rank them, but in terms of total assets and presences, mizuho is bigger than nomura as I researched
Hey Mizuho intern, look up the M&A league tables and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

I know someone on Equity Advisory, not the best group from what I have heard.
Go with Nomura; longer track record (despite volatile) in the US, more complete banking team, plus they have remnants of the Lehman platform in Europe and Asia that helps on the margin
Mizuho just bumped base to 90
Slightly a different topic - but I noticed that not many people lateral from Mizuho to BB/EB. Even though they are saying they are aggressively expanding their m&a division, it will still take time to actually make a presence and honestly is not looking too hot right now (currently interning at mizuho). Do people think it will be difficult to lateral in the future? Should I try to recruit to other MM or BB/EB if I can for FT?
A good amount of people lateral from Mizuho to other BB/EB's
Go with mizuho, less competitive environment. Mizuho filled with all those ex-RBS people, content to just coast be right passive on everything and the pay is still banking good. Cushy lifestyle compares to Nomura, where some groups think they are goldman.
This is accurate. Paid street for minimal work (relatively speaking). Great culture and WLB because of this
