Include Eagle Scout on Resume?
I was taking a look at the resume template posted on the IB forum and wanted to know what people would think about including the eagle scout project I did my senior year of high school under the leadership section. Would you find that acceptable as an interviewer/ resume screener? What are your thoughts?
Assuming you made Eagle Scout then I would include it somehow. I always try to make sure to give anyone an interview who has achieved that.
I was a cub scout. Can I get an interview?
I included it. Some don't really seem to notice or care. However, most of the time it led to a positive comment by the interviewer/recruiter or a conversation that adds more color than you typically get from a resume (i.e. trips I've taken, cool places/experiences, and activities/hobbies that scouting introduced me to)
I feel like its one of those things where it depends on whos reading the resume. If they really know what it means, it's a big leg up. If they dont really understand the merit of making Eagle Scout, then maybe not so much.
Imo, you should definitely include it
I include it. I've never had anyone question why its on there. However, I have had people praise me on the accomplishment. Its just a way to distinguish yourself. Only other Eagle Scouts will probably care but you never know who might be one.
No downside only upside, so yes.
This has all the potential upside of listing something like your frat (the networking/brotherhood factor), with basically none of the negative stigma, pretty much a win-win.
Like others said, it makes sense to put it in there. Any Eagle Scouts who see it would love talking to you about it. However, everyone at least generally knows that it's an achievement. I personally don't know too much about it besides that it involves learning survival skills and doing some things in the woods. I wouldn't hold it against you though in any way.
If you include it but didn't go to Philmont, I'd probably think you suck. But wouldn't have a negative impact on your interview.
My troop made a point to go every two years and i got to enjoy Philmont one of those two times. The second time we were scheduled to go i broke my knee two weeks before the trip and wasn't able to but the first time we did a 10 day 78 mile trip if i remember correctly
Non-Eagle Scout here. If the project is relevant/extensive and you don't have stronger and more recent experience, I'd include it in the leadership/extracurricular section. Otherwise, I'd include it at the bottom in Interests. Definitely include it somewhere.
