Incoming Acquisitions Analyst - Advice?
Hi All,
New to the forum (first ever post) and wanted to tap into the knowledge and experience this forum has. I'll be starting a new role as an acquisitions analyst at a small REPE shop here in the US. The start date is in a couple of weeks, and this will be my first full-time job out of undergrad. Cognizant of the fact that there is much to learn about the industry and office/team dynamics.
Being intentionally broad here, but what are some things I should be doing starting from day one on the job? What are some good habits/traits to develop as I progress through the job? i.e. how do I (eventually) become a dependable and strong analyst? Any advice specific to acquisitions would be great as well.
Thanks!
I’m still early in my career as well, but I’d say do a lot of reading of old memos and Google any terms you’re unfamiliar with. Real estate is a different language, the quicker you can get familiar with it the better off you’ll be. Practice your writing as well. A lot of memos are filled with pages and pages of analysis and market research that you are going to have to regurgitate
Pretend like every dollar you plug into a financial model is your money. If you do this, you become intensely curious and interested in how things work. Trust me here. Hard to do but worth working on.
Be organized with your file naming conventions and your folder organization. Seems small, but it will go a long way.
