Getting into Institutional Sales
I have an MBA in finance from a top-15 school and after graduation a few years back ended up working progressively in business development.
I've wanted to get back into Finance and am considering institutional sales as an area that will allow me to leverage the sales experience as well as the finance MBA and passion for finance in general.
Does anyone have any insights into similar career moves, or advice on how feasible this change may be, as well as what the career path may look like?
Institutional Sales isn't so much about selling the product as it is about selling yourself and maintaining clients/a vast network of contacts.
The most important question is what does your book look like? What type of people do you have relationships with? Traders? CFOs? Research Analysts? Investors?
??
MBA is nice and everything but not required for Institutional Sales
Institutional Sales - Senior graduating from Providence (Originally Posted: 01/07/2011)
I'm a senior graduating from Providence College, non-target school, with a decent GPA looking to work in sales. I've had two internships, one at an independent broker/dealer and the other at UBS in WM at the Providence, RI branch. I have plenty of experience cold calling. I recruited new brokers and also called potential clients so I'm very comfortable on the phones and have been screamed at, threatened, all of the above.
Coming from a non-target school and also not working as a summer analyst at a major IB, Where else should I be looking to get into institutional sales?
Any help is appreciated.
