Intern Down - Advice needed for a new chimp
Hello Fellow Monkeys,
I'm felling down an discourage after some dis-heartening news that I will not be returning to the bank I accepted an Internship this summer (with promise of full-time, which didn't come through). So I know reach out to you guys for some help and guidance before I make a poor decision that hurts my career prospects down the road.
Background on the situation:
So, I am/was working in a market that is very small and fragmented. AKA, I have narrow down the entire market to be about 150-200 Bankers in the market ( his is not a joke). I have literally exhausted all my connections and every firm in the market place is not hiring at this time. I did have a Internship in a boutique shop that had promised me that they would bring me on full time, however didn't ( with pretty much no reason at all).
Hers is the real kicker though. The internship was after I graduated, so now I don't have school to go back too. So, I can to the quick realization that I need to leave this market place as quickly as possible and I need help on the direction I should take.
Background:
Non-target School - 3.7 GPA - Accounting, Finance and Minor in Statistics
Ran the Student Investment Club at my school for 1 year - was in for 1.5 years
Asset Management and IB internship under my belt
I find time to train and run Ultra Marathons in my spare time - This is my interesting and fun thing I do
Options:
1. Go Big 4 Audit , then transfer to TARP and try to switch to banking later. I figure I can use Big 4 to transfer to East Coast.
2. Commercial Banking and then try and switch down the road.
3. Go Back office at a bigger firm and try and work my way into a Front office role down the road.
I understand that all of these come with some serious grinding and networking. Also, that no path is going to be easy to get back to IB. Let me know what you thing any help is appreciated.
