Internship salary negotations?

I got an offer for an internship at an asset management/hedge fund but the pay was on the low side. I was wondering if interns generally negotiate offers (I plan to regardless of what usually happens), and how best to proceed. Thanks.

careful not to upset anybody. your internship experience is highly dependent on how your senior coworkers like you, and whether your work will be good or shit is up to them. if you come across as an ass hole, you will be treated like one. besides, who cares if your summer doesn't pay so well, that isn't really the point of the internship anyway

I had an internship w/ a BB when I was a soph and got $1100/wk w/ a $2000 lump-sum housing subsidy. However, as a sophomore you shouldn't really be caring what they pay you since this internship puts you in the front pack for next summer in terms of internships. That's what's really important. I say shut the fuck up and don't ruin a good thing by bitching over a few thousand dollars.

How about working there for a few weeks and trying to get a raise when you've proven how good you are?
Dude, forget the money and just be happy you have a good internship your sophomore summer. Do you have any idea how stupid you will look asking for a raise halfway through an internship?

If you really do impress them, I'm sure they will gladly give you a bonus at the end of your internship, but you will look like an absolute tool if you ask for more money.
