Investment Banking Phone Interview with Goldman Sachs MD

Hi - recently I had a phone interview (1st round) with an MD at GS for IB position (lateral) and all seemed to be going fine until the technical portion. Although I don't think I completely bombed it, I'm also not sure I nailed it (he asked some clarifying questions after my response to one of his questions and seemed a bit confused). Not sure if it was my response or because of cell phone connection he couldn't hear me well (he was at the airport at the time). I sent him a thank you note and received the following response within a few hours.

"Thanks Name,

Great chatting with you this morning.

All the best,
Name"

How should I view this? Am I done here and he is just being polite ? Thoughts?

Wouldn't dig into it too much; sounds like you're just looking for the "it's going to be okay" answer to calm your nerves, which is the one I'm giving. As a lateral I assume you know how busy and consequently frank / short MD's can be in their responses period so I think the fact that he responded is already a good sign. Good luck and don't sweat the small stuff.

If you're honestly throwing out there that Goldman is hiring an lateral IB position, and you 1.) let this forum know theyre hiring and 2.) ran the risk that the MD could come across this thread and see how paranoid you are over an email, then you absolutely do not deserve the position.

If this is a troll post, then good job

Humans have anxiety, don't think anyone sane would give a shit.

@OP don't read into things. Interview is over. You got a response, that's a positive sign.
