Is the buy-side the promise land for an IB analyst ?

Hello WSO,

A lot of people talk about how you should go into the IBD out of undergrad grind it out for 2-3 years and transition to the buy side. Once u get hired at a hedge fund or PE you will work less and get paid more. That’s what people say. However I am getting mixed comments on this topic.

I want to get to the bottom of what the buy side entails transitioning from IB analyst to PE or a hedge fund.
Compensation? Hours? Work-Life balance? Etc.

Any insight would be great.
